Melanie Hasler in a gold rush: Double victory at the European Championships in St. Moritz
Melanie Hasler won two European Championship gold medals this past weekend on her home track in St. Moritz, competing in both the monobob and the two-woman bobsleigh with her regular brakewoman, Nadia Pasternack.
In the monobob, Hasler was in third place after the first run, poised to challenge for the gold, behind leader Bree Walker (AUS) and Germany's Lisa Buckwitz, who is also a contender for the European Championship title. While Buckwitz made a mistake in the horseshoe section of her second run, Hasler delivered a flawless performance. Although the Australian secured the World Cup victory, Hasler still managed to clinch the silver medal.
Just one day later, Melanie Hasler celebrated another title. Together with Nadia Pasternack, the Aargau native, competing for SMBC, was also the fastest European in the two-woman bobsleigh. This marks Hasler's fifth European Championship medal and Pasternack's second. The pair had won silver together in Altenberg in 2023. Thanks to two flawless runs on Sunday, they once again left the three strong German duos behind.
Before the first World Cup victory of the season, Hasler/Pasternack were ultimately separated by just 1/100th of a second: Kaillie Humphries and Jasmine Jones secured the St. Moritz World Cup title with this narrow margin.
