Documentary: 125 years of the Saint Moritz Bobsleigh Club
The history of the oldest bobsleigh club in the world. A film by Adrian Gaberthüel, produced as part of the 125th anniversary celebrations.
A bet by hotel pioneer Johannes Badrutt attracted English spa guests to the Engadin in winter for the first time at the end of the 19th century. They actually stayed and developed completely new ice sports for their "amusement". On December 21, 1897, the world's first bobsleigh club was founded in the Kulm Hotel - the Saint Moritz Bobsleigh Club. This film, produced as part of the 125th anniversary celebrations, shows the fascinating history of one of Switzerland's most legendary sports clubs, from the beginnings of bobsleighing on the Cresta Run and the municipal road from St. Moritz to Celerina, to the first bobsleigh track built in 1904 and its latest innovation: the launch of the first para-monobob. After 125 years of club life, with numerous highs and lows, on and off the bobsleigh run, an eternal struggle for funding, two world wars and two Winter Olympics, the club is as active and innovative today as ever. It owes this to its numerous presidents and athletes, but also to the many loyal souls who have dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to the club and the sport. This film tells the story and allows numerous protagonists to have their say.
